Portugal may not be able to guarantee the renewal of its teaching staff by 2034, according to a warning from the trade union federation. The federation argues that strategies are needed to "attract, train and retain" teachers, as well as to establish teaching positions to allow the necessary renewal in schools.
According to the data presented, more than 38,000 teachers will be needed by the 2024/25 school year to meet the needs of the Portuguese education system.
The trade union federation argues that without concrete and urgent measures to improve conditions in the teaching profession, the country will continue to face difficulties in attracting and retaining teachers in schools.
