The Liberal Initiative came to comment on the seizure of dried and processed fish in the parish of Caniçal, namely traditional dried gaiado, considering it necessary to quickly find a solution that reconciles compliance with the law with the preservation of a practice deeply linked to the history and local economy.
Caniçal has in the sea a fundamental part of its identity and tradition. The activity of fish processing and drying, especially gaiado, represents an ancestral practice that supports many families in the region and constitutes an important cultural element for the community.
The authorities proceeded with the seizure of the product due to issues related to compliance with current legislation, which has generated concern among local residents and producers. The Liberal Initiative defends that the law must be applied with good sense, recognizing the cultural and economic value of this tradition.
The party alerts to the need to find a balance between legal regulation and the preservation of traditional activities, suggesting that solutions be explored that allow producers to continue carrying out their activity within an appropriate legal framework.
