The President of the Portuguese Republic will travel to the Vatican between September 23 and 24 for a meeting with Pope Leo XIV. This visit represents a relevant moment in relations between Portugal and the Holy See.
During the same trip, the Portuguese head of State will be on French soil on the 29th and 30th of the same month, to make a visit to the Council of Europe. This trip to France comes as part of a broader international tour by the President.
The Vatican visit program includes meetings addressing issues of mutual interest between Portugal and the Catholic Church, strengthening the diplomatic ties between both. The meeting with Leo XIV follows other diplomatic initiatives by the Portuguese President.
