The Portuguese company Uavision, based in Torres Vedras, will invest up to five million euros in Viseu over three years to create a high-altitude unmanned aeronautical system, called HAPS, a "pseudo satellite" that will be innovative in Portugal and Europe. The overall project involves around 10 million euros in total investment.
The investment will be made at the Municipal Aerodrome Gonçalves Lobato, in Viseu, where the City Council allocated about two thousand square meters of area for the company's installation. In the first year, the hangars will be built and up to two million euros will be invested, and by the end of the three-year period, the total investment is expected to reach five million euros.
The company expects to initially create between 10 to 20 jobs, with possibility for growth, focusing on training local people. Uavision produces aircraft command and control systems, electronic systems, metalworking and composites, intending to manufacture part of these aircraft in Viseu.
The choice of Viseu was mainly due to the quality of the aerodrome's runway, which will allow developing and testing the systems in the same location, significantly reducing testing time and increasing the chances of success. Administrator Nuno Simões expressed particular satisfaction with the investment, highlighting his family origins in the Viseu district, while the Mayor, João Azevedo, highlighted the importance of the company for Viseu's economic capacity building and for the Defense sector in Europe.
