Delta and Nãm inaugurated a factory that allows tripling mushroom production using coffee grounds as substrate. The industrial unit, with 2,000 square meters, is located at Delta's facilities in the Rio de Mouro area, in Sintra.
With this new factory, annual production of fresh mushrooms increases from the current 48 tonnes to about 150 tonnes. The project also allows the reuse of 150 tonnes of Delta's coffee grounds, which is equivalent to approximately 15 million espressos.
The partnership between the two companies follows a circular economy logic, transforming an industrial waste into a food product. The mushrooms are grown in substrate made from the coffee grounds collected at Delta's points of sale.
