Delta Cafés and Nãm triple mushroom production from coffee grounds

Delta Cafés and Nãm inaugurated the new Nãm Fungi Factory in Odivelas, a facility dedicated to the production of mushrooms from Delta's coffee grounds. The circular economy project between the two companies dates back seven years, having started in a basement in Lisbon, and now gains a significantly larger industrial dimension.

The new factory covers an area of 2,000 square meters, enabling the increase of fresh mushroom production from approximately 48 to 150 tons per year. This growth represents more than triple the previous capacity.

With this facility, approximately 150 tons of coffee grounds will be reused annually, equivalent to the waste generated by about 15 million espressos. The process consists of using coffee grounds as a substrate for mushroom cultivation, transforming coffee production waste into a food product.
