Jerónimo Martins, a Portuguese retail company, announced it will appeal the 120 million euro fine imposed by the Polish regulator. The decision was made by Poland's competition authority, which identified illegal practices allegedly carried out by the company in the Polish market.
The retailer stated it firmly believes it was not involved in the illegal practices cited by the regulator. The company maintains its position that it did not commit any infringement and defends its conduct in the market.
Following the regulator's decision, Jerónimo Martins confirmed it will contest the fine in the competent courts, following the legal procedures available to challenge the decision.
The 120 million fine represents a significant amount for the Portuguese group, which operates in Poland through the Biedronka supermarket chain, one of its main international operations. The legal process is expected to take some time until there is a definitive resolution.
