NRP Zaire detected, during an inspection operation carried out in the early hours of the morning, 2.011 kilos of dried bigeye tuna that were not declared in the records presented by the crew. The detection occurred at 1 AM, during an operation targeting artisanal "salto e vara" (pole-and-line) fishing vessels in the Madeira maritime zone.
The operation involved NRP Zaire, which carried out the inspection of the vessels, and the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Funchal, which carried out the subsequent proceedings after the detection of the undeclared cargo.
Following the identification of the irregularity, the fishing vessel was escorted to Port Caniçal, where the legal procedures related to the case were carried out.
