A 35-year-old woman was rescued from the Tagus river on Sunday night by a rescue team from the Vila Franca de Xira Volunteer Firefighters. The victim was found near Mouchão de Alhandra, facing great difficulty fighting the tide and reaching the riverbank.
The alarm was raised at 7:49 PM by a colleague of the woman, when darkness was already falling. The woman had been spotted in obvious difficulties in front of the Cevadeiro Field, a location from which the situation became critical.
The firefighters from Vila Franca de Xira intervened quickly to carry out the rescue, managing to get the victim out of the water safely. The woman was then assisted by authorities after being removed from the river.
