The European Commission is moving forward with the implementation of the European Digital Identity Wallet, known by the acronym EUDI Wallet. By the end of 2026, all member states will have to make at least one such digital wallet available to their citizens.
This digital wallet will allow users to store and present important documents directly on their phones. Among the documents included will be the identity card, driver's license and medical prescriptions, replacing the need to carry the corresponding physical documents.
The regulation establishing this wallet has been approved by the European institutions, making its implementation mandatory for all European Union countries. The measure is expected to facilitate citizen identification in various contexts, both nationally and cross-border within the Union.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize public services and make life easier for European citizens, allowing more convenient and secure access to identification documents and other essential documents in daily life.
