The sixth edition of the Action Packed festival returns to Coimbra between Thursday (17) and Sunday (20), with four days dedicated to rockabilly music and the culture and aesthetics of the 1950s. The event is promoted by the cultural association Boppin' Coimbra, in partnership with the Municipal Theatre Workshop (Teatrão), and features European and North American bands and DJs, including several artists performing for the first time in Portugal. The organization aims to strengthen Coimbra's presence in the international rockabilly festival circuit and attract specialized audiences interested in these unique musical and cultural experiences.
Besides concerts and DJ set sessions, the program includes vendor booths, a vintage market, a photography exhibition by Francisco Oliveira, and a showcase of classic vehicles. The concerts will be interspersed with DJ sessions from the United States, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Portugal, all connected to the international rockabilly events circuit.
The festival kicks off on Thursday at 9:00 PM at A Fábrica studio, in Coimbra's Baixa, with a welcome party and the national premiere of the French band Kathleen Winters and The Checkmates. On Friday, starting at 8:00 PM, Teatrão hosts the German band The Round Up Boys and the Dutch group Mischief!. On Saturday, the Teatrão stage welcomes the German band Ike and The Capers, formed in Berlin in 1994, the Porto-based 49 Special, and the Coimbra-based Die Marksmen, making their debut at Portuguese festivals. The Action Packed festival concludes on Sunday at 10:00 PM with an after-party at A Fábrica studio.
