Praça da República in Loulé hosts on September 22nd another edition of PARK(ING) DAY, an initiative integrated in European Mobility Week that invites the population to leave their cars at home for a few hours. The event takes place between 18:00 and 23:00, coinciding with European Car-Free Day, and aims to occupy the space usually dedicated to car parking with activities for socializing, leisure and awareness-raising for sustainable mobility.
This year's edition, under the motto "Claim your place in the city", is part of the European Mobility Week 2026 theme – "Mobility for all – Justice between generations" – and includes a diverse program with a walk, board games, a swap market, a GNR road safety track, immersive cinema, musical entertainment, traditional games and sports activities.
The Municipality of Loulé highlights that the program seeks to connect different dimensions of mobility and sustainability, with a focus on soft mobility, road safety, climate action and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits. The municipality considers that public space can take on other functions beyond parking, encouraging more inclusive, active and sustainable ways of experiencing the city.
The 2024 edition has the participation of various local entities and partners, including the municipal companies Infralobo, Inframoura, Infraquinta and Loulé Concelho Global, the Algarvensis Geopark, the Guarda Nacional Republicana, the Boardgamers de Loulé, the Swap Market, Clube BTT Loulé, MOOV – Fitness Center, Almancilense Cycling and the Local Volunteer Bank of Loulé.
