Benfica defeated Gil Vicente 3-1 at the Estádio da Luz, in a match from round six of the Liga Portugal Betclic. The Club has already commented on one of the most notable moments of the game, which was the foul on Daniel Banjaqui following a harsh challenge from Gil Martins.
Pedro Henriques, a former referee, analyzed the play and argued that the Gilista midfielder should have been shown a yellow card. In his analysis to the newspaper A BOLA, Henriques considered that Gil Martins did not make full, direct contact with the Benfica full-back's leg.
According to Pedro Henriques' description, Gil Martins came in with his right leg, from top to bottom, sole first, making a dangerous play. He initially touched the ball, which got pressed against Daniel Banjaqui's right foot, ending up scraping the Benfica player's right ankle.
Regarding the penalty suffered by Fredrik Aursnes in the 87th minute, Pedro Henriques agreed with the decision.
