The Iberian Observatory denounced the shutdown of reactor I at the Almaraz nuclear power plant, expressing concern about the situation. The organization warned that a firm position from the Portuguese government regarding this issue continues not to be heard.
The entity also emphasized that the control and monitoring of radiological impacts on the waters of the Tagus River is not being updated. This lack of surveillance represents one of the main concerns raised by the Iberian Observatory in the context of this reactor shutdown.
The Almaraz nuclear power plant is located in Spanish territory, in the province of Cáceres, and is one of the oldest nuclear facilities on the Iberian Peninsula. Its proximity to Portugal has been a matter of debate between the two countries over the years.
