The municipality of Aveiro and the Portuguese Triathlon Federation signed a collaboration protocol that provides for the holding of an important triathlon event in the parish of São Jacinto on October 10, 2026. The agreement was approved by the municipal executive, which decided to grant a subsidy of 20 thousand euros for the organization of the event.
The competition integrates the 7th edition of the National Military Triathlon Championship, the National Clubs Championship at the Standard distance, and also an open event at the Sprint distance. The event brings together military and civilian athletes, including representatives from the Navy, Army, Air Force, National Republican Guard, and Public Security Police.
The municipality of Aveiro highlights that São Jacinto possesses unique conditions for holding outdoor sporting events, marked by the proximity between the lagoon, the sea, and the surrounding natural spaces. The city council considers the event an opportunity to promote sports practice and showcase the natural and sporting potential of the parish.
The competition also holds special importance as it may constitute an opportunity for observation to select athletes who will represent Portugal at the Military World Games, scheduled for the United States of America between June 25 and July 4, 2027.
