French President Emmanuel Macron sent to Brussels a revised version of a bill aimed at banning social media for under-15s. This new version comes after the original text was censored by the Constitutional Council in mid-August.
The Constitutional Council considered that the initial proposal was not in compliance with European law, which led the French executive to review the document before resubmitting it.
Macron intends to ensure that the proposal fully complies with European legislation, particularly with regard to fundamental freedoms and the protection of European citizens' data.
The measure is part of a broader strategy by the French government to protect young people from the dangers associated with excessive use of social media, including mental health issues and exposure to harmful content.
