FlixBus will cease operations at Peniche Bus Station starting Monday, September 14, unilaterally transferring its services to the Court Stop. The decision was formally communicated by email on September 4 to OesteBus, the entity managing the terminal, and was received with surprise.
The transport operator had held access authorization to the municipal infrastructure since June 2022, operating eight regular daily schedules. After the improvement works completed in 2024, FlixBus did not submit any new request for modification or expansion of schedules.
OesteBus publicly lamented FlixBus's choice, criticizing the lack of prior coordination and warning about the negative impact on local mobility. The Court Stop, where the operation will be transferred, currently records very high occupancy, centralizing 117 daily passages on weekdays from various urban, interurban, school, and intermunicipal routes of the OesteCIM public network, including connections to Lisbon.
The management of the operator warns that the change will cause service overlaps and affect punctuality, as well as create serious operational and safety constraints in the boarding and disembarking of passengers, with repercussions on service quality and the economic balance of the regional public network.
