The municipalities of the Alentejo Litoral will receive 4.5 million euros to purchase clean buses and respective charging stations, funded by the Just Transition Fund, with 100% co-financing of eligible expenses. The funds are framed within Portugal 2030 and were approved through an Order published in the Official Gazette, which approves the Specific Regulation of the Incentive System for Sustainable Local Mobility in the Alentejo Litoral.
This regulation was proposed by the managing authority of the Alentejo Regional Programme and developed jointly with the Agency for Development and Cohesion, the technical coordination body of Portugal 2030. The objective is to support sustainable local mobility through the acquisition of buses with zero emission levels for public passenger collective transport services, as well as the installation of electric and/or hydrogen charging infrastructure.
The calls for proposals are intended for municipal and intermunicipal public passenger transport services. Applying companies cannot be in difficulty, must have a balanced economic and financial situation, cannot have submitted the same application to other support instruments funded by national or European public funds, and cannot have overdue wages.
The 100% co-financing applies only to eligible expenses, namely the purchase of the clean buses themselves, corresponding to the additional costs of acquiring new vehicles with zero emission levels. The costs for the construction, installation, modernization, or expansion of charging or refueling infrastructure are limited to a maximum support of 20%.
