Vila de Rei will celebrate on September 19th the 741 years of the Charter, granted by King Denis, which elevated the former settlement to the category of Municipality. The celebrations begin at 11:00 am at the Town Hall with the raising of flags, followed by a Solemn Session at the Monsignor Dr. José Maria Félix Municipal Auditorium, which will be presided over by the Secretary of State for Housing, Patrícia Gonçalves Costa, and will include the awarding of Honorary Distinctions.
At 12:00, there will be the inauguration of new Houses and Villas at the Vale Galego Urbanization, intended to strengthen the municipal affordable housing stock. The traditional community lunch takes place at the Fair Park, bringing together the local population.
During the afternoon, starting at 3:30 pm, the Municipal Auditorium hosts the delivery of support for population settlement in Vila de Rei and School Scholarships. The festivities end at 7:00 pm with a presentation of "Tchiloli" Theatre, one of the most emblematic cultural manifestations of São Tomé and Príncipe, which combines theatre, music and dance in a tradition with several centuries of history and represents a unique expression of the cultural identity of that archipelago.
The Municipality of Vila de Rei invites the entire population to participate in the various initiatives scheduled throughout this day of celebrations.
