The Festas dos Capuchos in Vila Viçosa continue to affirm themselves as a reference event in the valorization of Alentejo identity. Pedro Beato, vice-president of the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo, was present at the inauguration of another edition of these centennial festivities, highlighting the role of traditional events in the cultural and tourist dynamization of the region.
According to Pedro Beato, this type of initiative contributes to giving energy and color to Alentejo localities, helping to keep villages, towns, and cities alive. The official explained that cultural events dignify the memory, roots, identity, and heritage of the territory, representing an important contribution to the region's cultural offering.
The Festas dos Capuchos are characterized by a strong familial and community dimension, marked by the return of people originally from Vila Viçosa or the municipality who live in other regions of the country. Pedro Beato considered that this reunion allows recovering the essence of Alentejo culture, particularly the hospitality and tradition of welcoming families and visitors.
The vice-president of the ERT of Alentejo and Ribatejo advocated for the need to find a balance between preserving the essence of the festivities and introducing innovative elements capable of attracting new audiences, considering that the Festas dos Capuchos constitute a good example of how tradition can continue to play a relevant role in the future.
