Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) has proven to be more effective in the long term than sleep medications and has few side effects. This therapeutic approach has consistent evidence of efficacy in treating insomnia.
However, despite its advantages, most people who suffer from insomnia will never have access to this treatment. CBT-I remains underutilized and poorly available to the population that needs it.
The real obstacle identified in the article is access to this treatment. Even though it is considered the first-line standard of treatment for insomnia, CBT-I faces significant barriers of availability and access.
