Over 50 municipalities in seven districts of mainland Portugal are at maximum rural fire danger, according to meteorological and fire risk information. The affected districts include Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, and Portalegre, which face extreme risk conditions.
The meteorological conditions have been favorable to the occurrence and spread of fires, with high temperatures, low relative humidity, and wind. These conditions will persist until at least Friday, extending the maximum alert period for the most vulnerable regions.
Civil protection authorities have reinforced warnings to the population to avoid risky behaviors, such as burning debris, bonfires in rural areas, or discarding cigarettes. Vigilance in critical areas has also been intensified.
The very high rural fire danger also affects other regions beyond those at maximum danger, extending to areas across several districts. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and appeal to citizens' collaboration in fire prevention.
