New rules from Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) against undisciplined passengers on domestic flights take effect this Monday. The regulation establishes procedures for airline action and provides for warnings, removal from aircraft, fines, and even boarding bans in more serious cases.
The changes establish punishments for those who commit physical or verbal aggression, cause disturbances, or damage air infrastructure. Sanctions depend on the severity of the infraction, and fines range from R$500 to R$17,000.
In cases considered extremely serious, the passenger will be included in a flight prohibition list called the No Fly List. In these situations, the person is prohibited from purchasing tickets or boarding on any domestic flight in Brazil.
The proposal creates a standard procedure for crews. The protocol begins with verbal warnings and may evolve to the removal of the passenger from the aircraft with police assistance.
