The directors of the Kennedy Center in Washington stated that the institution is at risk of bankruptcy and possible closure within days, according to information from The Washington Post. The performing arts center attempted to add President Donald Trump's name to the building's facade, a decision that sparked controversy and legal problems.
According to documents obtained by the newspaper, a vote by the board of directors is scheduled for this Tuesday to decide whether the main building of the center will be closed. The directors cite financial and security needs as justifications for the possible closure.
In the documents, the directors warn that the Center "may become unable to pay payroll or routine maintenance contracts within a few weeks." The delicate financial situation puts the institution's basic operations at risk.
The directors argue that publicly recognizing Trump on the Center's facade would help secure the necessary resources for the institution's survival. The case also resulted in compensation that the Kennedy Center will have to pay to a musician who canceled a show due to the presence of Trump's name on the building's facade.
