The Spaniard Enric Mas conquered the Vuelta a España for the first time at the age of 31. His victory was marked by the circumstances of the race, as the rider took advantage of the withdrawal of Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, from UAE Emirates, to take the lead.
Pogacar was dominating the competition when he suffered a crash during the eighth stage, which led to his withdrawal. The incident allowed Mas to rise to first place in the general classification and take the red leader's jersey.
After taking the lead, Mas managed to maintain the advantage until the end of the competition, thus guaranteeing his first victory in the Vuelta a España. The Spanish rider completed the race consistently in the remaining stages.
In the final stage of the Vuelta, it was Norwegian Tobias Halland who stood out by securing the victory, although the general classification had already been decided in favor of Enric Mas.
