Boris Johnson reacted after escaping a Russian attack and called on the UK government to provide Ukraine with the air defense systems it needs. The former British Prime Minister made this appeal following an attack on a Ukrainian locomotive at the border with Poland.
Ukrzaliznytsia, the Ukrainian railway company, considered it "quite likely" that the Russian drone target could have also been the diplomatic convoy. This convoy was not evacuated, increasing concerns about the security of critical infrastructure in the region.
The attack occurs in a context of escalating tension at the border between Ukraine and Poland, a NATO member country, which raises concerns about the risk of the conflict spreading to allied territory.
