APDL announced the start of operations of the new Dry Dock No. 3 at the Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo, an infrastructure that strengthens the capacity for shipbuilding and repair operations. The beginning of operational activity was on September 7, with the entry of the vessel SEFU, which became the first to use the new facilities. The ship measures 117.3 metres in length, has a gross tonnage of 9,259 GT and a draft of 4.65 metres.
The construction of this new dry dock is part of the third amendment to the sub-concession contract and represents a significant reinforcement of the available conditions at the Estaleiros Navais de Viana do Castelo, expanding the capacity to respond to shipbuilding and repair operations.
For the port authority, the start of operations of this infrastructure constitutes a relevant milestone for the Port of Viana do Castelo. APDL states that the new dry dock allows for responding to larger and more complex operations than before.
With this new capability, the Port of Viana do Castelo consolidates its position as a strategic infrastructure supporting maritime-port activity and the naval industry, contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of the sector and the economic development of the region.
