About 40 children from Avis, in the district of Portalegre, will be able to receive the olive oil produced by their own olive tree until they turn 18. The initiative consists of planting an olive tree for each child participating in the project.
The initiative was born from a protocol established between the municipality of Avis and agricultural engineer and young farmer João Varela, 30 years old. The project aims to promote the connection of children to the land and agricultural activity from an early age.
The participants will receive the olive oil produced by the tree assigned to them throughout the entire growth period of the olive tree, thus creating a lasting relationship with the territory and with the olive production of the region.
