On February 26, 1993, around 12:17 PM, a massive explosion shook downtown Manhattan, striking the World Trade Center. The bomb detonated in the building's underground parking garage. The FBI described this attack as a bombing that hit the World Trade Center.
The perpetrator of the attack was Ramzi Yousef, whose initial plan was to topple the two twin towers. Although the scale of the 1993 attack was not the same as that of September 11, 2001, the intention to destroy the towers already existed at that time.
On September 11, 2001, some American televisions recalled this earlier attack live, which had happened eight years before the tragedy that would completely destroy the twin towers.
