Indonesia resumes search for more than 100 missing after ferry sinking

Indonesian rescue teams resumed on Monday the search for more than 100 missing people after the sinking of the Virgo Transport 8 ferry in rough waters. Authorities mobilized aerial, maritime and diving resources to support the search operations.

The ferry, which was carrying 213 passengers and 30 crew members according to authorities, lost contact with its owner on Sunday morning after departing from Surabaya, on the island of East Java. Mohammad Syafii, head of the national search and rescue agency, confirmed that six people have been confirmed dead and another 129 are missing.

At least 108 people were rescued alive on Sunday. Rescue teams mobilized five aircraft and 17 vessels to continue the search.
