The number of deaths from the collapse of a building under construction that fell onto a house in Penha, in the Eastern Zone of São Paulo, rose to six. The body of a child was removed from the rubble by firefighters in the early afternoon today, when the search operations were completed. The Fire Department accounted for a total of eight victims, with six deaths and two injured people.
The firefighters' rescue operations had been ongoing since the early morning of last Saturday, when the collapse occurred. The building that collapsed had ten floors and was located in the eastern zone of the capital city of São Paulo.
The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, stated that police will arrest the two owners of construction company New Home, responsible for the work. According to the mayor, a crime was committed because a demolition order for the structure was not followed.
The construction of the building began in 2019 and had been shut down by the City Hall of São Paulo before the collapse occurred.
