A fire broke out at the Chamusca landfill, requiring a large firefighting operation. The response to the fire mobilized 80 operatives and 25 vehicles to try to control the situation at the site.
The attempt to use aerial means was discarded, as these proved inadequate for the firefighting operation in question. Thus, the intervention was limited to ground means.
The fight against the fire on the ground was also difficult, due to the large amount of flammable material at the landfill. This characteristic of the site significantly complicated the work of the operatives.
The landfill in question receives solid urban waste from 210 thousand inhabitants from ten municipalities, accumulating large volumes of waste that fed the flames.
