Formula 1: 'I don't feel that great, as I think Lando deserved the victory', says Antonelli after Spanish GP win

The Spanish Grand Prix was held this Sunday at the new Madrid circuit, with the presence of Real Madrid stars, and crowned Kimi Antonelli, from Mercedes, as the race winner. The young Italian driver got the strategy right and counted on Lando Norris's bad luck to claim his eighth victory of the season, extending his championship lead with 292 points. Max Verstappen, from Red Bull, and Norris, from McLaren, completed the podium in second and third place, respectively.

George Russell, Antonelli's teammate at Mercedes, finished the race in fifth place and has 211 points in the championship standings. The next Formula 1 round will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the 26th of this month.

After the race, Antonelli admitted he doesn't feel completely good about the victory. The Italian stated that the race was quite difficult and not obvious in terms of tires, and that he believes Lando Norris deserved the win. He explained that he took the chance that appeared during the race.

At the start, Antonelli tried to take the lead from Norris, but went off track twice during the attempt. On the first exit, he was overtaken by Max Verstappen, who later gave the position back to the Italian for having benefited from the situation.

Why this matters

Brazilian Formula 1 fans closely follow the title fight, and Antonelli's victory keeps the season competitive. The next race in Baku could be an opportunity for Norris to recover and for Verstappen to try to reduce the gap in the standings.
