Assisi is an Italian city located in the Umbria region, nestled among gentle hills and endless olive groves. It is a small medieval town built in pink stone that changes hue depending on the light of day, and has for centuries been a destination for pilgrims and travelers drawn by its spiritual history and artistic heritage. At the heart of the city stands the Basilica of Saint Francis, built in honor of the saint who was born there.

Among the main places to visit are the Basilica of Saint Francis, with frescoes by Giotto and the saint's tomb, the Basilica of Saint Clare with its pink and white marble façade, Piazza del Comune built over the ancient Roman forum, the Cathedral of San Rufino where Saint Francis and Saint Clare were baptized, Rocca Maggiore with panoramic views over the Umbrian valley, the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli which houses the Porziuncola chapel, and the Eremo delle Carceri, an isolated hermitage on the slopes of Monte Subasio.

Assisi can be comfortably visited in 1 to 2 days. As for transportation, the nearest airport is in Perugia, about 30 minutes by car, although the most practical option is to fly to Rome or Florence and then continue by train or car. By train, the journey from Rome takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, from Florence about 2 hours, and from Perugia only 20 to 25 minutes.

The best times to visit are spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October), when temperatures are mild and the landscape is most attractive. Summer is high season with more heat and tourists, while winter is the quietest and most economical time, with fewer tourists and a Christmas market in the city.
