Between paint, trash and gardening: 150 freshmen transform support space in Porto

TVI Notícias13 September 2026 at 14:46

Around 150 freshman students from the Catholic University of Porto participated in a volunteering action at Associação Norte Vida, a social support institution in Porto.

The students dedicated themselves to various space intervention tasks, including painting, cleaning and gardening, with the aim of transforming and improving the association's facilities.

At Associação Norte Vida, 17 people live, the vast majority of whom face drug addiction problems. The institution provides support and follow-up to these users.

This volunteering activity is part of the integration of new students at the university, providing them with practical experience of social impact in the local community.

Why this matters

This initiative is relevant for the Porto community because it demonstrates the involvement of young university students with vulnerable populations in the region, promoting social integration and raising awareness about the reality of drug addiction. The action contributes to improving the living conditions of residents at Associação Norte Vida and strengthens the connection between the university and the local social fabric.
