The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) in Coimbra will begin this academic year the transfer of part of its activity to two buildings located on Rua Ferreira Borges, in the city's Baixa. This change represents a significant investment in Coimbra's historic zone.
The institution expects this decision to bring about a thousand students per day to Coimbra's Baixa. This flow of young people could help dynamize local commerce and services, revitalizing an area that has faced desertification challenges.
The transition will be carried out gradually, over several years, allowing for a smooth adaptation of both the institution and the neighborhood. This gradual approach aims to minimize negative impacts and ensure that the integration of students is beneficial for everyone.
The main objective of this initiative is to contribute to the revitalization of Coimbra's historic center, seeking to reverse the phenomenon of abandonment that has affected many old areas of Portuguese cities.
