Cooking was already an art form in the Bronze Age, study reveals

4,500 years ago, cuisine in Syria was already surprisingly sophisticated. Recipes based on goat, cereals or gazelle were cooked slowly in clay pots, according to a study conducted by Danish researchers. The research analyzed organic residues found in ceramics from Syrian archaeological sites, revealing the complexity of culinary techniques at the time. The results demonstrate that cooking in the Bronze Age already went beyond simply preparing food, consisting of a true art form with elaborate preparation methods. This study was recently published and contributes to a better understanding of gastronomic practices among ancient Middle Eastern civilizations.
