In the second quarter of 2026, NET.mede registered approximately 106 thousand Internet speed tests, representing a 15% decrease compared to the same period last year. Fixed accesses represented 52% of the total tests, while mobile accesses remained around 40 thousand tests since the end of 2021, corresponding to 36% of the total.

At the geographic level, 19 municipalities did not register tests for residential fixed accesses and 26 did not have tests for mobile accesses. The NUTS II Norte region stood out with the highest number of tests in fixed accesses, while the NUTS II Centro region led in mobile accesses. Lisbon was the city with the most tests regardless of access type.

The median speed results indicated 229 Mbps or more for residential fixed accesses and 20 Mbps or more for mobile accesses. There were significant improvements compared to the same quarter last year: for fixed accesses, download increased by 12% and upload by 2%, while for mobile accesses, download rose by 5% and upload by 7%.

This improvement in speed is attributed to the increased adoption by users of Internet plans with higher speeds. NET.mede is a service by ANACOM that allows users to test the quality of their connections, providing information about speed and latency at different times of the day.
