A new WhatsApp scam is targeting some iPhone versions and is considered more dangerous than other existing schemes. This scam stands out because criminals use the victim's account to ask money from the closest people, such as family and friends, without the user themselves noticing the conversations.
The scheme spread rapidly in Spain, according to the newspaper El País. The example cited is that of Óscar, who received a money request sent by his daughter Vivianne. The particularity of this scam is that the messages actually came from the daughter's legitimate account, making the request credible and difficult to detect as fraudulent.
Unlike other traditional schemes, the user never becomes aware that their account is being used to send messages to their contacts, which makes this scam especially insidious and difficult to prevent.
