A merchant ship was struck off the islands of Hengam and Qeshm, in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian government information. The attack occurred around 5:00 AM local time, which corresponds to 01:30 GMT.
The attack resulted in the death of one person and left three injured. The toll was confirmed by the governor of the city of Qeshm, Amir Teymouri, in statements broadcast by Iranian state television.
The islands of Hengam and Qeshm are situated in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important maritime routes for oil transport, located in the Persian Gulf.
