Bia Haddad talks about career break and wedding preparations: 'There are other things in life that inspire me'
São Paulo tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia, at 30 years old, has decided to take a break from her tennis career to focus on other plans. She was set to be the star of the SP Open, a tournament that begins this weekend, but chose to step away from the courts temporarily. Bia says there are other things in life that inspire her beyond tennis.
The tennis player is engaged to neurosurgeon Alex Daoud, also 30 years old, and the wedding is scheduled for mid-2027. The engagement ring is a classic Tiffany & Co. Setting, with six prongs and a solitaire diamond. Bia says she is excited about the preparations: "We're getting married in the middle of next year. We're planning, and we don't have everything 100% decided yet, but I'm really excited. It's going to be a very special and memorable day in our lives, with the people we love and who are part of our story."
The couple's union was written by destiny when they were children, when they attended the same club. Alex asked Bia out when she was just 9 years old, but each followed a different path: he went into Medicine and she pursued a tennis career. The two are now reuniting to make their union official after all these years.
