Weekly stages: Circular between Macbeth and urban culture

Público13 September 2026 at 07:21

The autumn cultural rentrée brings a diverse programming to the stages, combining literary classics with contemporary productions and references to urban culture. Among the week's premieres, Shakespeare performances stand out, including a version of Macbeth that promises to revisit the English playwright's work with current languages.

In the field of humor, Porchat's sketches are featured in the programming, bringing stand-up comedy to national stages. This performance represents one of the week's main entertainment bets, attracting audiences seeking humorous reflections on daily life.

The production "A Sexual History of the Internet" is also part of the week's cultural offering, addressing topics related to the history and evolution of the internet from a cultural and social perspective. This play complements the range of options that explore the relationship between technology and contemporary society.

In the performing arts segment, the Circular space hosts programming that includes the return of "Iminente" to the school, in a fusion between urban culture references and the school environment. This artistic-educational proposal represents one of the initiatives marking the return of the cultural season after the summer period.

Why this matters

Readers looking for cultural and entertainment options in the region have here an updated guide to the main shows and events of the week, from classical theater to comedy, documentaries, and urban art festivals, allowing them to plan their cultural outings.

Sculpture 'Saudade' leaves Galeão and goes to Marina da Glória, previously put up for sale

The sculpture "Saudade", 1.80m tall, created by artist Beto Gatti, was transferred from Tom Jobim International Airport, where it remained for four years, to the promenade of Axia Marina da Glória, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro. The piece, which will be on display for a month in Guanabara Bay, is part of the new edition of the Monumental Arte na Marina da Glória project, opening this Sunday (13). Along with two other bronze sculptures by the same artist — all for sale, with 20% of the proceeds going to the Associação Saúde Criança — the work proposes a reflection on how screens keep us connected but not always close. The exhibition serves as a preview of the arrival of ArtRIO next week, while Gatti prepares a show on the same theme in London.
