School says students who underwent exam at cultural fair must seek hospital

oglobo13 September 2026 at 08:00

Colégio-Curso Tamandaré advised students and visitors who underwent glucose tests during a science fair at Recreio II unit, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, to seek medical attention after detecting that the same lancet was used on up to three people. The incident happened Saturday morning, at a diabetes awareness booth.

According to the school, a student brought a lancing device and a box of lancets for the presentation, accompanied by her guardian. The instrument is used to obtain a drop of blood from the fingertip to measure blood glucose. The institution states that teachers and administration had determined, during a rehearsal, that each person should use their own lancet. However, during the presentation, the same lancet ended up being shared among up to three people.

In a communication to families, the school asked that anyone who had their finger pricked during the activity seek a health facility within 72 hours from the procedure. The alert aims to prevent possible infections or disease transmissions that may have occurred from sharing the instrument.

Why this matters

People who attended the science fair at Recreio II unit of Colégio Tamandaré need to seek a health facility within 72 hours if they had their finger pricked during the blood glucose activity, due to the risk of contamination from reused lancets. The school acknowledges the failure in security protocol and issued a communication to families to try to contain possible health consequences for participants.

Rare snake surprises breeders by having two heads capable of controlling the body equally

A two-headed ball python was born at a breeding facility in Eugene, Oregon (USA), and surprised breeders by demonstrating that both brains can equally control the shared body — something rare, since in most cases of dicephaly one head tends to be dominant. Both heads can drink water, flick their tongues, and react to touch independently, with the body responding to each one. The breeder Justin Stewart, 36 years old, told Creatorzine that he doesn't know if the heads are aware of each other, but stated: "They don't seem to mind it."
