Chilean authorities arrested around 300 people during demonstrations held in memory of the victims of Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship. The announcement was made by the Government on Saturday.
The demonstrations took place without the executive having organized any official ceremonies to commemorate the victims of the military regime that governed Chile between 1973 and 1990.
The high number of arrests contrasts with the absence of official commemorations by the Chilean State, which is believed to have motivated many citizens to participate in the unauthorized demonstrations in remembrance of those who suffered during the dictatorship.
