Since the debut of the Aquarius Project on April 30, 1972, at Aterro do Flamengo, the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra has become synonymous with the event, which gathered one hundred thousand people. The ensemble has participated in over a hundred free concerts in public spaces in Rio and in other cities such as São Paulo, Brasília, Recife, Belo Horizonte, and Vila Velha (ES). Next Saturday, there will be another free concert from the initiative, this time at Praça Mauá, in the Port Zone of Rio.

The relationship between OSB and the newspaper O GLOBO and with one of the conceivers of the Aquarius Project, journalist Roberto Marinho (1904-2003), began in the 1940s. The connection between the orchestra and the media outlet was documented in the book "Brazilian Symphony Orchestra: a reality challenging time: 1940-2000" (Funarte, 2004), by Sérgio Nepomuceno Alvim Corrêa.

The book records testimony from maestro José de Lima Siqueira (1907-1985), founder of OSB, given to Virgílio Moretzsohn, which helps understand the origin of the orchestra and its connection to the newspaper.
