The film "Woman Unknown" ("Mulher Desconhecida") won the Grand Jury Prize, the Golden Lion, at the Venice Film Festival. The Danish production also received a special jury prize for the film "Naza".
The drama was directed by El-Toukhy and tells the story of a young nanny and domestic worker who marries her wealthy widower employer. The protagonist hides a shameful secret that ultimately threatens to destroy her new life and social position.
The action takes place during the period of anarchy that followed the end of World War II, in a context of profound social transformation and political uncertainty. This setting serves as a backdrop to explore themes such as social mobility, secrets, and the consequences of manipulation.
