Madeira failed to place any monument among the 7 New Wonders of Portugal. The island region had only one candidacy to represent the archipelago in this contest, but did not achieve the necessary votes to appear among the winners.
The event announcing the results took place this evening in Sintra, the venue that hosted the ceremony to reveal the seven new wonders of the country. The elected monuments were distributed across the different regions of mainland and insular Portugal.
With this defeat, Madeira has no representation in the set of New Wonders of Portugal, which includes seven monuments from different points of the national territory. The absence of a Madeiran monument in this ranking represents a symbolic loss for the region.
