The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, stated that police will arrest the two owners of construction company New Home, responsible for the construction of a 10-story building that collapsed early Saturday morning (12), in the Penha neighborhood, east zone of the capital.
According to the mayor, the owners of the construction company committed a crime by failing to obey the demolition order for the structure determined in 2024. The construction company's lawyer reportedly confessed that the demolition was not carried out.
Nunes explained that the City Hall followed all legal procedures before the collapse: inspected, notified, fined, filed a lawsuit and stopped the work. The construction of the building began on the 20th, but the information about the month or year is incomplete in the article.
The mayor regretted the incident and stated that those responsible will be held accountable for their actions. The collapse left at least four people under the rubble of the building.
