The 24th edition of the Jazz ao Centro Coimbra Festival takes place from October 1 to 10, with a clear commitment to outreach to schools, communities, and different municipalities in the region. The president of the Jazz ao Centro Clube Association, José Miguel Pereira, stated that education is the fundamental commitment of the festival, explaining that arts and culture have importance in the educational context to transform the lives of children and youth.
Among the partners of this edition are the Coimbra Centro School Grouping, the Baco and Marias do Loureiro republics, and Cria'ctividade. José Miguel Pereira explained that, given the eviction threat facing both republic houses, the festival aims to give voice to an important part of the living heritage of the city.
The festival extends to the region, covering the municipalities of Miranda do Corvo, Pampilhosa da Serra, and Lousã in the Coimbra district, and Mortágua in the Viseu district, which will host the creation "Às Voltas no Loop," aimed at secondary school students, between October 14 and November 18. Coimbra is not just a city, it is a region, emphasized the president of JACC.
The festival opens on World Music Day, October 1, with the exhibition "Women in Jazz in Portugal," by Márcia Lessa, and a concert at Jaime Cortesão Secondary School. On October 2, concerts will be held at Largo de São Salvador and Salão Brazil. The closing performance will be by Carlos Bica at Salão Brazil. Tickets cost between five and 14 euros, with some free performances available.
