The Judicial Police arrested in Porto a man who was wanted by Uzbekistan since 2022. The operation was carried out by Portuguese authorities under an international arrest warrant.
The individual was located and captured in the city of Porto, in northern Portugal. The competent authorities proceeded with his detention in accordance with the legal procedures provided for in extradition cases.
The PJ, responsible for criminal investigation in Portugal, executed the capture order requested by Uzbekistan. The wanted man had been on the run since 2022, when Uzbek authorities issued the arrest warrant.
The detainee will now be subject to the legal extradition process, which may involve stages of verification of the legality of the request and the identity of the individual, before any final decision on his transfer to Uzbekistan.
